Classes:
Wool Processing - Raw to Textile: Come and learn how to turn raw wool fleece into a textile...without the use of large or expensive equipment. In this hands on workshop we will take a raw fleece, pick it, card it, and then work it into either yarn or felt. You will get a chance to work a drop spindle or a spinning wheel, work a piece of felt, and give a try at needle felting. A rigid heddle loom will be there to explore if this is the right loom for you.
Foraging & Herbal First Aid: Knowing what is around you for food and medicine creates a peaceful mindset. Knowing how to forage and wild harvest those plants safely and regeneratively helps to turn foraging from a hobby into a lifeway. We will focus on plants from this bioregion that are in abundance and easily identifiable. Herbal first aid starts with good first aid and then uses herbs to make it better. From stopping bleeding, wound care, digestive first aid, and more, come and see how to assemble a strong herbal first aid kit with a discussion for a more backwoods kit. Medicine Making/Herbalism: Come and learn how to turn plants into medicine with a focus on nonalcoholic remedies. We will discuss using fresh vs dried, using plant medicine successfully, and creating a home apothecary to meet YOUR needs. |

Ryan Jones
Whitehouse, Ohio About Ryan: I am a full time training officer for a large state agency. Prior to my current position I worked in prisons for over a decade and was forced to learn a great deal about violence and other topics that are a mystery to those who have never had to walk those paths. I have used this knowledge and experience to help others with topics such as violence, self defense and de-escalation and have established a small business offering these lessons to the general public. I have presented at other such homesteader and survivalist events on violence dynamics and less lethal weapons, as I find both to be valuable information. One topic that most homesteaders and people into personal preparation never seem to take into consideration is less lethal weapons. I offer a course that will speak to the options available for those who have never considered them before and also where such devices fit in with the mindset of the preparedness community (of which I absolutely consider myself a part of). I also can offer a course on violence dynamics and realistic de-escalation that speaks to the number one human phobia, interpersonal violence. Most people either avoid such topics out of fear to develop unrealistic ideas of how violence actually works. I will attempt to de-mystify this complex topics based on years of research and study backed by personal experience. Check out Ryan's Website: https://www.rdmfjones.com/ |

Class: Grinding and Using Fresh Flour
Lots of people are interested in grinding their own flour in small batches for home use. This is a healthier option, and wheat berries can be stored much more easily and safely than prepared flour in the long term. But, there are several differences between conventional flour and home-ground flour that people should be aware of. In Barbra Sue's class, she will discuss how to use home-ground flour. She will also explain the nutritional facts and discuss how to source and store wheat berries.

Angi Shinaver
Whitehouse, Ohio I am a small town urban homesteader. I have raised 4 children and 1 grandchild along with hundreds of pets over the years. I have been presented with just about every injury or illness a child or an animal could have. Between personal experiences and working as a vet assistant for 15 years, I am able to utilize that knowledge in emergency situations to treat my family and pets. I'm a backyard herbalist and utilize a natural approach to health care. I look forward to sharing the knowledge and techniques I have obtained over the course of my life with others. Contact: [email protected] |
Class: Pet Preparedness and Care When the Vet's Not There
will empower students with the tools and skills to help their pets when a vet visit is not possible or delayed due to a shtf event. It is stressed that this information does not replace veterinary care and students are urged to seek professional services as soon as possible but in the event such care is not available, it can provide the life saving skills needed for the pet.
