Beginning in the Autumn of 2022, Homeplace on Green River will be creating a Fruit Tree Memorial Orchard. It will be located on the gently sloped piece of land right off Hall Road just a ways from the historic Tate House. It will be the first thing visitors to Homeplace see. The orchard will host apple, pear, plum and peach trees. We are creating this orchard for a few reasons. Firstly, fruit trees are an investment in our community. Second, fruit trees are wonderful for supporting our local pollinator populations, like the honey bee and hummingbird. Third, a portion of the proceeds for each tree will go to Homeplace as a donation, adding to our organizations continued financial security. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Homeplace has a mission to celebrate and remember the proud history of our region. We feel there could there be no more tangible way to accomplish that goal than to celebrate the lives of community members with a living memorial that will last a lifetime, and nourish generations.
How it works
We will take orders for memorial trees all year long, but as it is best in this region to plant young fruit trees in the fall, we will plant all the trees a to once sometime in September of October. We will notify all the people who purchased trees and hold an informal planting ceremony on a day to be announced each year, trying to favor pleasant weather if possible. Patrons may also purchase (from the retailer of their choice) a plaque or memorial stone to accompany their tree. Additionally, a patron has the option to donate a bench with an engraved plaque so that visitors to the orchard may sit with the memories of their loved ones for a time.
Memorial Fruit Tree

A great way to honor your loved one, while supporting the financial stability of Homeplace, and adding sustainability to the community. Our Memorial Orchard will be open to the public, and families will be encouraged to come and pick fruit for free.
