Dear Friends,
Our nation is undeniably facing challenging times, affecting the lives of numerous families not only in Kentucky but across this great nation of ours as well. The escalating costs of groceries, unsustainable farming practices, politicized educational systems, supply chain disruptions, and the over-processing of foods have compelled individuals to reclaim control over their health, land, education, and family security. In the face of these challenges, a community of brave, resilient, and dedicated individuals has emerged—they are the homesteaders.
Homesteaders embody a spirit of self-reliance, seeking to create sustainable and harmonious lives for themselves and their loved ones. With unwavering determination, they embrace a holistic approach to living, valuing the connection between their actions, the land, and the well-being of their families. By taking matters into their own hands, these individuals strive to break free from the constraints of a system that no longer serves their best interests.

Through homesteading, they forge a path towards a more self-sufficient and sustainable future. They cultivate their own gardens, raising wholesome food free from harmful practices. They nurture animals with care and respect, providing their families with ethically sourced products. They preserve the bounties of nature, cherishing the flavors of the seasons long after they have passed. And they embrace the teachings of the land, imparting vital knowledge to their children through hands-on, experiential education.
In these challenging times, the homesteader's spirit is a testament to the power of individual action and the resilience of the human spirit. They are a living testament that change begins at home, in our own gardens, our own choices, and our own determination.Homesteaders are pioneers, embracing old-fashioned values while incorporating modern advancements to create a harmonious balance. They empower themselves with knowledge, seeking to understand the intricacies of natural systems, permaculture, and regenerative practices. They harness renewable energy sources, reducing their reliance on conventional power grids. They build resilient communities, supporting one another in times of need, and sharing skills and resources for the betterment of all.

We are dedicated to serving people by providing access to the skills they need, and you can join this service by providing access to the tools!
In September 2022, we collaborated to produce South Central Kentucky's first-ever Homesteading conference. The first conference was small but successful and laid the groundwork for a great annual event. This year, we have even more amazing things planned, and we expect as many as 500-1000 people to attend from Kentucky and its surrounding states.
We aim to provide an inclusive and enriching environment where you can learn, network, and grow alongside like-minded individuals. You'll have the opportunity to attend workshops, participate in hands-on demonstrations, and engage in thought-provoking discussions that will empower you to take your homesteading skills to the next level.
Beyond the educational aspect, we've also planned an exciting marketplace featuring local vendors and artisans specializing in products and services relevant to homesteading. It's the perfect opportunity to connect with quality suppliers, discover innovative tools, and support local businesses that align with your values.

Who We Are
Homeplace on Green River
Our Mission: We utilize education, conservation, and agritourism to preserve and promote rural American culture while exploring the sustainability of agriculture in our natural ecosystem.
Established as a not-for-profit organization in 2001, Homeplace on Green River, located in beautiful rural South Central Kentucky, is a 227-acre historical farm and event space. We serve as a permanent reminder for all ages of the role agriculture has played and is continuing to play in our lives. We offer immersive, hands-on educational programs, lively community festivals, event rentals, hiking trails, cropland leasing, lab and conservation programs, and more.
In February 2016, The Kentucky Senate approved a resolution supporting Homeplace on Green River as Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom. One of the largest components of our mission here at Homeplace on Green River is educating young people about the history of agriculture, the natural world, and conservation. Since incorporated into a 501(c)(3) in 2001, HGR has always intended to host extensive education and outreach programming. Homeplace on Green River is unrivaled in its uniqueness and potential. We invite sponsors at the $200 level or higher to participate as vendors with their own products and representatives. It is a great opportunity to sell or demonstrate the tools, equipment, or supplies homesteaders need. Additionally, we will have an “open house” for the conference on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm to give folks who are not registered the opportunity to see what the conference is like and give our vendors and sponsors opportunities to connect with more customers.
